In this unit, you will submit the War Gaming and Disruptive Innovation Strategy assignment.

This assignment incorporates learnings from Unit 1 on the competitive environment and Unit 2 on war gaming. Write a paper that builds on your work from the discussion in this unit and add in the concepts you read about in Bryce (2011) on competing against a free offering, comparing platform leaders, and winning. In your analysis, remember that well-designed war games can be powerful learning experiences that allow managers to make reasoned decisions.

In your assignment, you must do the following:

Discuss how war gaming would be of use if you were going to deploy a platform innovation strategy.

Define, compare, and contrast war game theories.

Discuss which of the war game concept supports disruptive innovation.

Select any publicly traded for-profit organization, and indicate which of the war game theories may be of use to the company. Note that the company you select here does not have to be the one you use as your case study organization in the upcoming assignments in the course.

Discuss the appropriateness of the industry’s environment for the war game.

You should also:

Refer back to Unit 3 and determine the type of innovation model—for example, disruption, Blue Ocean, and imitation—you would like to use to study a company.

Refer to Unit 4 to determine which business model principles will apply to your selected company.

Refer to Unit 5 to determine which market opportunity approach would be best for your selected company.

Do not use the theories to evaluate a company yet, but show your understanding of them.

Interpret your understanding of the innovation model, business model principles, and market opportunity approach.

Compare and contrast the innovation model, business model principles, and market opportunity approach.

In this unit, you will submit the Selecting a Case Study Organization assignment.

For this assignment, you will select a publicly traded for-profit organization that you will use to apply the innovation model and principles you selected and analyzed in the previous assignment. This company cannot be the same one you selected in BMGT8136. It can be an organization from an industry that you work in or one that interests you.

In this assignment, you must:

Identify your case study organization and the industry and environment in which it operates.

Provide a rationale for your choice of the case study organization.

Your rationale should include a brief overview of how the organization “fits in” with the innovation model, business model principles, market opportunity approaches, and leadership approaches. You will conduct a more in-depth analysis and take your study a step further in making recommendations for the company in the next assignment.

Begin your paper by describing the theory and constructs of these three areas based on the readings and your research from Units 2, 3, and 4.
